Kenya’s affordable housing debate needs honesty, especially from built environment players and presidential advisors. The regime is pushing a strong rent-to-own, high-rise model, yet culturally most Kenyans still retire back to rural homes, not city apartments they’ll service for decades. So are we really building “forever homes,” or just temporary city stops?
Lifestyle reality shows that most Kenyans still resist high-density “dove-like” living in storey buildings, especially where privacy, space, and social comfort are limited.
Is the design user friendly? I don't think so because most of these “affordable” units if not all, are walk-ups with no lifts, meaning:
:-elderly residents struggle daily
:-sick or injured occupants are trapped
:-mothers with young children are overburdened
So what exactly are we calling “affordable”? Price alone?
I'm convinced the low mortgage uptake isn’t demand based but a mismatch between policy design, Kenyan culture, and basic human needs. Because a housing model that ignores how people actually live will always struggle, no matter how many units are built. While you temporarily live like doves with your family in urban flats and apartments, please consider building your dream and retirement home. At veldonconstruction.ltd,we've got your back.

How I managed to save 5K -7K 💰 per month thro' proper time-mgt ⏰
TIME ⏰=MONEY 💰
This saves me the hustle of hiring a househelp 🧺🧼🧽🧹@7,000 kes per month, because I organise my house, myself, b4 I leave.
I catch the 6 a.m bus 🚌 to town 🌆🏙️🏢. Supermetro bus charges fluctuate according to timing. Boarding one b4 the rush hour saves me 50 bob per trip (50*20=1000 bob)
I walk🚶🏽♀️instead of using motorbikes 🏍️: Due to the fuel price hikes, I save 70 bob 'coz I walk to the stage to avoid nduthi charges.(70*20=1400 kes. Savings)
I shop 🛒once a week at our local soko 🏪 and monthly at a wholesalers to avoid exorbitant prices charged by local dukas. E.g. a kg of rice 🍚 🌾 costs 100 bob at a wholesaler and 180 bob at our local duka. The diff. is huge 💵! This buying once, saves me time and money. Food budget savings=3,500 kes.
I meal prep 🍖 🥪 🍛🍝🍜🍲 every weekend. This means I cook 7 different meals and store them in the refrigerator, if I get home late, I just warm and eat.
This helps me sleep 💤 😴 early by 10 pm. So that I can get up early.
Early to bed, early to rise that's the way to be happy, healthy and wise!
My budget is down 5,000-7,000 kes. due to these daily strategies.

The Story of Talisma In a quiet corner filled with beads, colors, and imagination, Talisma was born — not just as a brand, but as a symbol of meaning. Every bracelet begins as a handful of beads, each one chosen with intention: a smile for joy, a crystal for clarity, a charm for courage.
What started as simple strings became stories — stories of friendship, self-expression, and energy. Each piece carries a message, handcrafted to remind you that beauty isn’t just seen, it’s felt.
Talisma is more than jewelry. It’s a tribe of dreamers, creators, and believers who wear their energy proudly. Every bead tells a story — and every story begins with you.
