What Does It Take For a Creator To Make 100 USD a Month?
We all want to be an online creator and make money doing what we love. But how much does it actually take to make a basic income of $100 per month?
1. X formerly known as Twitter
• Account standing: Your X account needs to be in good standing, na isikue na history of repeatedly breaking X's monetization rules or Terms of Service.
• Account type: Unaweza tumia a Personal or Business account. Political and government organization accounts haziko-eligible.
• Premium subscription: You need an active X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business subscription.
• Followers: You need at least 500 verified followers. Hapa, verified followers means followers who are themselves Premium subscribers or verified organizations.
• Impressions: You need at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users within the last 90 days. Impressions from replies don't count.
• Original content: You need to actively post content that is genuinely yours and adds your own voice, ideas, expertise or creativity.
Kufikisha hizi numbers, however, doesn't automatically mean umeingia. You still need to apply, then X reviews your account. X says the review normally takes up to three business days. If you're rejected, you can appeal once, and if that doesn't work, you can reapply after 90 days as long as you still qualify.

2. YouTube
YouTube imeannounce major changes to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) entry requirements for creators wenye wanataka kuanza earning from ads and YouTube Premium revenue. Hizi new rules zitaanza kutumika from February 1, 2027.
Basically, kama ulikuwa unaplan kuanza YouTube for money, the bar imepandishwa proper. The requirements za kufungua ad revenue zitakuwa double for new applicants. But kama tayari uko monetized, hizi changes hazitaku-affect. The lower-tier requirements for fan funding pia hazijabadilishwa.
From February 1, 2027, creators watahitaji kufikisha higher numbers before waanze earning from ads.
• For long-form videos: Utahitaji 8,000 public watch hours ndani ya last 12 months, up from the current 4,000 hours. The subscriber requirement bado iko at 1,000 subscribers.
• For YouTube Shorts: Utahitaji 20 million Shorts views within 90 days, up from the current 10 million views.
So kama ulikuwa umejiambia, “Nikifikisha 10M Shorts views niko sorted,” from 2027 utahitaji double that number.
Kama tayari uko kwa YPP na unaearn from monetization, hizi new entry requirements hazitaku-affect.
The changes mainly target new creators wenye wanataka unlock ad revenue from February 1, 2027.
So kama channel yako iko monetized already, hauitaji kuanza panic kuhusu hizo new thresholds.
For Shorts creators, kufikisha target once haitoshi.
Utahitaji maintain at least 10 million Shorts views every 90 days ndio uendelee earning from ad revenue.
Kama views zako zita-drop below 10 million within a 90-day window, earnings zitapause. But usishtuke, channel yako haitatolewa automatically from YPP completely.
Once umerudi na kufikisha 10 million views tena, your earnings can resume automatically.

3. Patreon / Substack / Discord / Twitch
These platforms are very different from TikTok na YouTube because hapa, creator anakuwa na a more direct subscription relationship na audience. Instead of relying mainly on views and algorithms, your fans pay you directly for exclusive content, access or other tips.
You don't necessarily need thousands of followers. You need a small number of paying customers who genuinely value what you offer.
Kama uko na 20 loyal fans who can comfortably pay $5 every month, tayari uko na potential ya $100 monthly. The game ni converting your audience from followers to paying supporters.
• 20 people × $5 = $100
• 10 people × $10 = $100
• 5 people × $20 = $100
The real question sasa ni: unaeza kupata 10–20 people wenye wako willing and able to pay you every month?
4. Facebook
Facebook's main Content Monetization program currently iko invite-only, so hakuna one fixed number ya followers ama views yenye guarantees uta-apply na kuanza earning. Meta hutuma invitations periodically to creators ambao wanaonekana eligible.
To qualify, generally una-need:
• Kuwa na Facebook Page ama profile yenye Professional Mode. Normal personal profiles bila Professional Mode haziko eligible for monetization products.
• Kufollow Facebook's Community Standards, Partner Monetization Policies and Content Monetization Policies. So lazima account yako ikuwe in good standing na isiwe na repeated policy violations.
• Ku-create original content yenye inafollow Meta's monetization rules. Simply reposting other people's content inaweza kukuweka nje ya monetization.
• Kuwa na good account standing na avoid repeated violations za Facebook's policies.
• Ku-set up your payout and payment information once umequalify and monetization imekuwa enabled kwa account yako.
• For some content formats, kuna additional requirements. For example, Meta's current Content Monetization guidance says eligible Reels need to be at least 10 seconds long.

5. TikTok
TikTok imeexpand sana its commercial creator ecosystem in Kenya. In January 2025, TikTok officially partnered with Wowzi as its creator-management partner in Kenya, helping connect Kenyan creators with brands and more commercial opportunities.
But kuna kitu unafaa kujua: TikTok’s Creator Rewards Program is not generally available in Kenya. The official eligibility information lists specific supported markets, and Kenya is not among them.
For creators in Kenya, the more realistic monetisation route ni:
U-build audience yako kwanza. Ukiwa na a good fanbase unaweza get brand collaborations ku-promote biz ama products via paid content ama upate big commercial partnerships.
