How Micah makes money selling solar products in Eldoret

In Eldoret town, Micah Meshack is lighting up homes with solar energy.
He runs a fast growing business selling solar-powered electronics such as TVs, lights, batteries and inverters. He does this on commission, and most of his customers come from social media platforms.
Micah started the hustle after finding it hard to get formal employment. “Job ni ngumu kupata sahii,” he says. “I needed to earn something for myself, my wife, and our baby.” A friend referred him to the business, and that’s how he began.
Because he works on commission, Micah didn’t need much capital to start. He only needed a smartphone, internet access, and commitment. “I just post products online, and when someone places an order, I deliver,” he explained.
Most of his customers find him on Facebook and WhatsApp. Some are referrals from previous buyers. What keeps them coming back? “Being honest and offering the best service,” he says.

Micah enjoys his work because it helps people. “Many of my clients live in places where there’s no electricity,” he said. “Wanakua so happy wakipata light ama TV ya solar. It changes their lives.”
But the job also has its tough moments. Convincing people online to trust him is not easy. “Sometimes a customer orders, then ana-switch off simu ukifika,” he said. Still, he keeps going.
Since joining the MESH platform, Micah says he has gained new customers and ideas. “I’ve met people doing different businesses, and that’s helped me think bigger,” he said. “MESH imenisaidia kupata prospects.”
Micah has one message for other young people doing businesses and hustles: “Be patient and consistent. Don’t give up. Success huja step by step.”
