A section of animal feed manufacturers who imported a large volume of yellow maize last month are now staring at losses occasioned by cheap local white maize which has triggered low demand for the imported yellow maize.
A 90-kilogram bag of imported yellow maize is selling at 5,600 shillings against the 5,300 shillings that white maize is selling locally. The importation of yellow maize in July was meant to reduce the price of animal feeds and reduce pressure on white maize.
At the time of importation, the price of white maize had hit a high of 6,000 shillings. The price of the grain has gone down to around 5,300 shillings following a good supply from farmers who have finalized harvesting. ✨ Soko Directory
