CLEFT GRAFTING
This is a method of vegetative propagation used to propagate woody plants, such as fruit trees or ornamental trees. It involves cutting a scion, or a small shoot or branch of a desired plant, inserting it into the bark of a rootstock of a related species/variety.
Over time, the scion & rootstock will grow together and form a new tree that will bear fruit or flowers characteristic of the scion. Cleft grafting is a useful technique for propagating new trees, in situations where other methods like budding or layering may not be appropriate
