Eti 'don't give a man fish, teach him how to fish instead' Huku Kiambu, Gov. Wamatangi alianzisha program moja last year Oct. ya kujenga men na ma-youth piglets ili waanze pig-farming na kujikimu kimaisha.
"This ambitious initiative aims to serve as seed capital for pig farming ventures, offering young men an opportunity to start their own agribusiness and become self-reliant." Says the Kiambu Governor.
Mara ya kwanza, wasee wali-doubt kama hii project itakuwa successful, but 8 months later nguruwe wengi already wameproduce 8-9 piglets per beneficiary!
Kiambu County could become a model for youth-driven agribusiness in Kenya. With continued support and monitoring, the pig farming project is poised to transform lives, boost food security, and create a new generation of successful farmers. There's growing demand for pork in the market, and with these piglets being given as breeding-stock, young farmers will be smiling all the way to the bank!
Here's the math:
A mature pig sold at 6-8 months can fetch between Ksh 20,000–30,000. With a small herd of 10 pigs, farmers can earn up to Ksh 300,000 per cycle. Additional income streams like manure sales can generate Ksh 5,000–10,000 monthly.
