Government to collect over Sh12 billion from new number plates.
The government will fine Sh20,000 for anyone who does not get the new Sh3,000 number plate by the end of 18 months.
Official data shows Kenya had 3.9 million registered vehicles at the end of 2020.
The number of car and motorcycle registrations is currently growing at nearly 400,000 per year, with bikes accounting for over 70 percent of the listings.
The new generation number plate is fixed with a RFID microchip embedded on the sticker to facilitate wireless transfer of information between it and mobile police readers or at traffic lights.
It will reduce theft and tax evasion.
