🇰🇪 Happy Saba Saba Day – 35 Years of Bravery & Change 🇰🇪
Today, we honor Saba Saba, a historic turning point in Kenya’s fight for democracy. On 7th July 1990, brave Kenyans gathered in defiance at Kamukunji Grounds to demand multi-party democracy in a time when speaking out meant risking your life. There was no social media, no trending hashtags—only courage, conviction, and community.
Led by heroes like Kenneth Matiba, Charles Rubia, and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, and supported by fearless patriots such as James Orengo, Koigi wa Wamwere, and Rev. Timothy Njoya, the movement was met with brutal force—dozens killed, hundreds injured, and thousands detained. Yet, their sacrifice wasn’t in vain.
Their action sparked the fall of the one-party regime and the return of multiparty democracy in 1991, forever changing Kenya’s political landscape.
Let us remember our fallen heroes, whose blood paved the path to the freedoms we now enjoy. Their legacy reminds us that change is possible when people unite for justice—even without the power of the internet.
🙏 May the Lord bless and protect all of you this Saba Saba Day. Stay safe, stay hopeful, and keep the spirit of freedom alive.
