🥚 HOW TO IMPROVE EGG PRODUCTION IN LAYING HENS
Good egg production depends on much more than simply giving hens feed. Nutrition, water, lighting, age, genetics, disease control, housing and stress management all influence production.
Layers require a balanced diet containing appropriate energy, protein, minerals and vitamins. Calcium is particularly important for eggshell formation, but adding supplements blindly is not a substitute for a properly formulated layer ration.
Water must always be available and clean. Even short periods of inadequate water availability can negatively affect production.
Keep the poultry house comfortable, well ventilated and protected from excessive heat and overcrowding. Heat stress can reduce feed intake and consequently affect egg production and eggshell quality.
Collect eggs frequently, keep nesting areas clean and handle eggs carefully to reduce breakage and contamination. Monitor daily egg numbers and record production.
If egg production suddenly drops, investigate rather than immediately changing feed or giving medication. Consider water supply, feed quality, heat stress, disease, lighting changes, age and other management factors.
