I walked out of the cybercafe and forgot one small thing.
My session was still open.
I had gone in to print a document and send an urgent email. In and out, I thought. Ten minutes, tops.
Between logging into my email, scanning my ID, and printing my certificates, I left behind more of myself than I realized. A browser tab was still logged in. A printed copy of my ID sat in the output tray. A cloud storage folder remained open on a shared computer.
A few days later, I learned that the same cybercafe had suffered a security breach.
I have no way of knowing whether my files were affected.
That uncertainty is the real problem.
Most people assume a shared computer forgets them the moment they walk away. In reality, it often does not. Browser sessions can remain active. Temporary folders may keep downloaded files. Print queues can retain copies of documents. Autofill data and cached credentials can also linger long after a user signs out.
Now add AI to the equation.
Modern AI tools can instantly search, classify, extract text from scanned documents using OCR, and organize thousands of files in minutes. Those capabilities help businesses become more productive. In the wrong hands, they can also help attackers identify identity documents, financial records, login details, and other sensitive information far faster than manual searching ever could.
Convenience has never been more powerful.
Neither has the cost of overlooking basic security.
That experience changed how I think about shared devices. Every public computer, every shared login, and every printed document is a decision about exposure.
Whenever possible, I avoid shared machines. When I have no choice, I sign out of every account, clear downloads, remove printed documents immediately, and never save passwords or files on the computer.
At Teklini Technologies, we build secure digital solutions that reduce the need for these risks in the first place. From encrypted client portals and cloud based document signing to secure remote support and modern web systems, our goal is simple.
Technology should reduce your risk, not multiply it.
The biggest cybersecurity mistake is often not a sophisticated attack.
It is assuming nothing valuable was left behind.
