PUBLIC NOTICE: Enhancing the Integrity and Tax Compliance of Mobile Devices in Kenya

The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) announces new measures to ensure the integrity and tax compliance of mobile devices. Effective January 1, 2025, all stakeholders involved in assembling, importing, and distributing mobile phones must comply with the following:

1. Local Assemblers: Must upload the IMEI of each device to the KRA portal to ensure tax compliance.
2. Importers: Must disclose the IMEI in import documents submitted to KRA.
3. Retailers/Wholesalers: Must only sell tax-compliant devices, with a verification process provided by CA.
4. Mobile Network Operators: Must verify tax compliance before connecting devices to their networks.

These regulations apply to devices imported or assembled from November 1, 2024. Existing devices before this date will not be affected.
