Let me tell you a story — a story of struggle, resilience, and hope.
Last week, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Kakuma Refugee Camp in Turkana County, as a community advocate from Nairobi. This was my first time in Kakuma, and it was an eye-opening experience.
I visited several Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) within the camp — all passionately advocating for the rights and wellbeing of refugees. I also met an amazing group of women artisans creating necklaces, clothes, and school uniforms to support their families and build sustainable livelihoods.
Despite facing immense hardships, refugees from different countries have come together to support each other, creating a community grounded in unity and resilience.
This is the story of people still searching for peace, still holding onto hope.
As a community advocate, I left Kakuma inspired and challenged. It’s time for all of us — especially CBOs — to intentionally include refugees in our programs.
