Nairobi County has introduced new licensing fees for filmmakers, influencers, broadcasters, and digital entertainment businesses under the 2026 Finance Act. Key charges include: Local film crews: KSh8,000 per shoot International film crews: KSh50,000 per shoot Music videos: KSh10,000 per project Static content hubs: KSh40,000 annually Monetised/ticketed influencer events: KSh10,000 per event Local streaming platforms: KSh100,000 annually Digital content hubs: KSh80,000 annually TV stations: KSh200,000 annually Radio stations: KSh150,000 annually The county says the fees will formalise the creative industry and generate revenue for municipal services. However, creator groups argue that the new costs could hurt small and independent creators. Non-compliance could result in fines or confiscation of production equipment.
