On 27th October, Voice of Dagoretti CBO, with support from AFRINOVE, conducted a community awareness activity in Dagoretti North using magnetic theatre and traditional dance to educate and sensitize community members on Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Through engaging performances and interactive skits, community members were informed about the different referral pathways and mechanisms available to GBV survivors to access support and essential services.
The activity also highlighted a major challenge facing Dagoretti North: the lack of safe houses for GBV survivors. Currently, community members have limited access to police stations with gender desks, with only two identified stations serving the area:
Kilimani Police Station
Muthangari Police Station
This highlights the urgent need to strengthen GBV response services, expand access to safe shelters, and improve referral systems to ensure survivors receive timely, safe, and dignified support.
