Planting Garlic tips:
- Purchase your seeds from a certified propagator. Garlic seeds/seedlings are normally the cloves or tuparts when you separate a mature bulb.
- Soak them overnight in water mixed with optimizer...10ml/20 litres.
- If using a dripline, recommended spacing holes is 15cm dripline. Plant along the holes in a column and in rows 8cm apart. Righ spacing is important to allow for good bulb formation through minimized competition and right uptake of water and nutrients. It is also important in mitigating pests (thrips)and diseases (rust, purple blotch, powdery mildew)
- Plant the cloves as they are without skinning or anything. The sharp point should face up (shoot end) while the base where roots will come from down. If placed in any manner other than this they will likely not shoot/germinate.
- Give a constant supply of water that's why drips are recommended.
- Based on your soil test results, apply the right nutrition. Also spray in a span of every 7 days to tackle pest/disease menace.
