Slums going Green and Clean Initiative (SGGC):

Turning Trash into Treasure

A youth group in Kibera is revolutionising how residents interact with waste 🗑️. From a small group of waste-pickers 🚮, to a community-based org. that compresses plastic waste into strong furniture pieces-chairs, tables, desks, stools. They have cleverly invented a machine that combusts plastic and then compresses it to create beautiful furniture . Using iron-box technology and used up oil as their fuel, this group has taken recycling ♻️ to a whole 🆕 level ⬆️.

This initiative has created jobs for their members. From earning 400 shs. per week/ per person from estate waste-collection to acquiring funding and support from FEMNET and SHOFCO. These brilliant individuals are a force to reckon with in the climate justice space.
