The Year Was 2021…
It was 2021, right after I had just completed my BSc. I remember sitting with a friend and telling her something that had been on my mind for months.
“I want to be extremely skilled at one thing,” I said, my voice filled with the kind of longing that only comes when you’re desperate for clarity. “But the one thing hasn’t clicked yet. I keep changing my mind every eke market day. How will I ever be great at anything if I can’t focus on it long enough to give it the time it needs?”
She listened quietly, then smiled. “Come to my fellowship,” she said. “My pastor will see what you need to do and tell you.”
I went.
After the fellowship, we went to greet the pastor—a prophet, she said. I stood there awkwardly, unsure of what to expect. She looked at me for a moment, then asked, “Are you into fashion?”
I shook my head. “No.”
“Do you do anything clothing-related?” she asked again.
Another “No” from me.
She smiled slightly and said, “I see you doing great things in fashion.”
I thanked her politely and left. But deep in my heart, I knew the truth: fashion was never part of my plans. Not then, not now. It wasn’t something I thought about, dreamt of, or even cared for. But I kept the words in the back of my mind. Who knows? Maybe her prophecy could still come true one day.
Almost five years have passed, to be exact—and nothing remotely fashion-related has happened. I’m still here, working on computer stuff, and honestly? I love it.
If you’ve ever felt stuck or unsure about your path, let me tell you this: prophecy might not be the solution you’re looking for. The Holy Spirit works together with your spirit. Sometimes, the answers you seek aren’t waiting for you in someone else’s words or visions. They’re inside you, waiting to be heard.
Take time to be mindful. Stay alone with your thoughts. Listen closely. You’ll hear the answers you need. And when you hear, decide to believe it. Trust that voice within you.
You are your own prophet.
