The government (Kenya) sometimes inahitaji pesa ya kubuild roads, schools, and hospitals. So, wanauliza people (like you and me) to lend them money for a certain period. In return, the government inapromise kutulipa later with extra money (interest).
Kuna two main types:
- Treasury Bills – Like lending for a short time (a few months to a year).
- Treasury Bonds– Like lending kwa a long time (several years).
Watu huinvest in government securities because they are safe, na they earn extra money while waiting for their money to be returned. Just like vile you trust your friend Kenya to give you back your money, people trust the government to pay them back! 😊
