
When working with relatives, family or friends, treat them just like any other person. Make it as formal as it can be. Do this as early as possible. Avoid emotional hiring as much as you can. Business has no emotions! Give them no special privileges or promotion unless they prove themselves worth it. The more formal you make it, the more safe it is for you and your business or project. Let them know they are dispensable just like any other person. If they mess up or become complacent, let them go through the disciplinary process as the standard procedures dictate. This way you will manage their expectations and tame their entitlement. They will take the business seriously and you will have helped them a lot in their professional life and personal growth. If you can, don't engage them or hire them directly. Help them from a far, especially if they have wrong attitude, lazy and ungrateful.
