Why I Started Writing and Why You Should Too
Deep within us lies everything we need—our thoughts, our passion, and the strength to create.
Writing is one of the purest ways to access that deep well within. For me, it began back in high school.
I didn't see myself as a writer then, but looking back, I realised I was already on the path.
During motivational speaker sessions, I would scribble down every inspiring word, filling my notebooks with quotes and ideas.
The library became my small haven. I’d read, reflect, and write down everything that moved me.
Writing wasn’t just something I did; it was part of who I was.
But after high school, I lost that spark. Life took over, and I shifted my focus. Netflix, betting, and other distractions filled my time.
The writing felt meaningless—like a small thing in a world full of bigger dreams. Even during my university years, I didn’t feel the urge to pick up a pen.
Everything changed after graduation. One day, while sorting through old belongings, I stumbled upon a book I wrote back in 2016.
The words “Be the change you want to see in the world” were scrawled across the cover. Reading those pages brought back a flood of emotions. I realized writing had never left me—it was waiting patiently for me to return.
That moment was a turning point. I joined writing groups, started reading again, and began practising daily. Slowly, I rediscovered the joy of putting my thoughts into words.
And then, AI entered the scene. Some see AI as a threat, but for me, it was a gift. It helped me reignite my creativity and reminded me why I started writing in the first place.
Now, I write not for myself but to inspire others—especially beginners who feel discouraged.
If you’ve ever felt like giving up on writing, let me tell you something: you don’t need to be perfect to start. Journaling, for example, is a simple way to begin.
It helps you capture your thoughts, keep good memories alive, and reconnect with yourself.
Writing is not about grand beginnings; it’s about consistency. One sentence, one idea, one moment of honesty—that’s all it takes to start. Don’t let self-doubt hold you back. Your words matter.
There are so many opportunities waiting for you as a writer. Whether it’s journaling, blogging, storytelling, or simply expressing your thoughts, writing is a powerful tool for growth and self-discovery.
