You are doing great work in the community. So why did the donor reject your grant proposal?
It’s heartbreaking. You have a project that will change lives. You have the team. You have the passion. You submit a proposal for funding, and months later, you get a generic rejection email.
Or worse, you hear nothing at all.
Here is the truth about donor funding: Donors do not give money based on how much they feel sorry for your community.
They give money based on structure, data, and compliance.
When a donor program officer opens your proposal, they are looking for specific things. If those things are missing, your proposal goes in the "No" pile in the first 5 minutes.
The 3 things that kill most CBO and NGO proposals:
🚩 1. A Missing or Weak Logframe: Donors use a Logical Framework (Logframe) to measure success. If your proposal has vague goals instead of SMART objectives, they can't measure your impact. 🚩 2. A Messy Budget Narrative: If your budget asks for KES 500,000 but doesn't break down exactly how much goes to transport, staff, and materials—with justifications—they will reject it as a financial risk. 🚩 3. No Sustainability Plan: Donors don't want to fund you forever. They want to know what happens when their grant ends. How will the project survive? If you don't have a clear plan, they won't invest.
You cannot use a free Google template for a donor who gives out millions of shillings.
We help CBOs and NGOs build custom Grant Proposals, Logframes, and Budget Narratives that meet the strict criteria of international and local funders.
If you are applying for a grant this year, don't let a weak proposal cost you the funding.
