How Morgan Started His Chemist Business

Morgan Mutethia is quietly making a difference through his chemist business at Mitunguu, South Imenti.
From helping residents access essential medicine to offering basic health guidance, Morgan’s biz is more than just a source of income, it’s a daily mission of service.
Morgan runs a chemist in Mitunguu where customers visit to get medicine supplies. "I started this biz after realising the joy ya kupata kitu at the end of the day," he says. “That feeling of going home knowing you helped someone and also earned something for your family is priceless.”
His journey into pharmaceuticals wasn’t smooth. Like many young businesspersons, Morgan had to save some of his income from earlier hustles he did to raise capital. "Nilihustle for some time, saved kiasi kiasi, until I had enough to open my shop," he reveals.

His first customers were neighbours and local residents who saw his signboard or heard about his services by word of mouth.
Today, Morgan maintains customer loyalty by offering what he calls “simple but quality customer care.” He treats everyone well and listens to their needs.
But even in this noble line of work, challenges haziwezi kosa. “Bad debts are the biggest problem,” he admits. “When you give medicine on credit, some people never pay on time and others never pay at all. That affects the business.”

Despite the challenges, Morgan says joining MESH helped him to make decisions. "I’ve learned how to handle customers better and manage the business more professionally," he said. "Mesh imenisaidia kubalance kazi na customer care."
He encourages other young people to start something, no matter how small it is. “Whether you’re selling medicine, mboga ama doing mtush, just start and keep learning. Hustle yako itakua,” Morgan says.
