How Ndusi Makes Extra Income as ‘Baba Mboga’ In Shinyalu

Eglacius Ndusi has built his 'baba mboga' side hustle income through a small-scale produce business that he operates in the evenings.

Selling tomatoes, onions, sukuma wiki, and oranges, Ndusi earns an average profit of Ksh 250 per day.

Ndusi, a resident of Shinyalu, describes his biz as one that fits well into his daily plan. “After I finish my farm work and household responsibilities, I set up my stall in the evening. People know where to find me. Some even come to my doorstep to buy,” he shared.

Alianza hii biz na capital ya Ksh 550, loan ali-borrow from a close friend. That small seed allowed him to buy his first batch of stock. His first customers were neighbours, who quickly became regulars after appreciating his friendly pricing and consistent availability.

According to Ndusi, customer loyalty inaweza kuwa fiti through fair negotiation na kuwa na personal relationships. “I talk to my customers. I understand their budgets. That’s why they come back daily,” he says.

While the business is rewarding, it does not come without challenges.

One of the biggest challenge ni customers requesting goods on credit, then wana-disappear without payment. “Some even move to other areas, and I’m left with losses,” he explains.
